Long Weekend Rome

These pages are about a long weekend visit to Rome: Friday until Monday (19 until 22 April 2002).
Each day we explore a different part of the city, as you can see on the map.
Also our hotel is indicated on the map.
Each day has a particular theme:
Friday The baroque Rome.
Saturday The old Rome.
Sunday The antique Rome.
Monday The holey Rome.

Friday - the baroque Rome
The first day we fly to Rome, which takes half a day. We have a half day left to explore the surrounding area of the hotel. The hotel is in the Centro Storico district. In this district you find Piazza di Spagna and the Spanish Steps, Piazza del Popolo, Trevi fountain and the shopping street Via Condotti.
 
Saturday - the old Rome
Today we visit the Old Town. Highlights here are Piazza Navona, Piazza Rotonda and the Pantheon. The beautiful street Via Giulia gets us to the river Tiger. We visit the district Travastere, at the other side of the river.
 
Sunday - the antique Rome
This day is all off antique Rome. We visit the Forum Romanum and the Colosseum. All the time when you are walking around the forum you see the huge Monument to Victor Emanuel II. Besides the monument is the church Santa Maria d'Aracoeli. In that same area is The Capitol.
 
Monday - the holey Rome
Today we travel by metro to a different state; the Vatican. There we visit the St. Peter's square, the St. Peter's basilica and the Sistine Chapel.
